Changing the Game, One Idea at a Time
Inside an Evolving Way of Playing the Game of Life
This Substack exists for people who feel a quiet (or not-so-quiet) tension with the way things are, and a curiosity about how they could be. It’s for those who sense they’ve outgrown a role, a routine, or even a version of themselves, but haven’t yet found the courage, or permission, to move on.
At its core, this space is about evolution.
I began this Substack after retiring from coaching following 38 years in a very successful career.
From the outside, it looked like the moment to stay put, enjoy the validation, and live off past wins. From the inside, it felt like the most game-changing moment of my life.
Stepping away wasn’t about leaving a profession. It was about refusing to let success become a ceiling. I didn’t want to preserve who I had been; instead, I wanted to evolve how I lived, thought, and chose.
Not the kind of thing that happens by accident, but the kind that comes from questioning assumptions, loosening mental habits, and practicing freer thinking. The idea is simple but demanding: change the way you look at things, and the things you look at will change.
That includes your life.
Many people don’t feel stuck because they lack the ability. They feel stuck because their way of seeing hasn’t kept up with who they’ve become.
Society rewards predictability. Families (often with good intentions) encourage safety, stability, and staying the course. Over time, even a good life can harden into a smaller one—comfortable, respectable, and quietly misaligned.
This Substack is for anyone who’s starting to ask:
What if the path I’m on isn’t wrong, but no longer right?
What if my dissatisfaction is a matter of information, not failure?
What if thinking differently is the first real career move?
Most writing online tells you what to think. This one is more interested in how you think, especially when it means thinking differently than your friends, your colleagues, or the people who care about you most.
Here, we explore:
New perspectives on old ideas
Open-mindedness that evolves, not shrinks, your options
The hidden cost of playing roles you’ve outgrown
How freer thinking leads to braver choices
The free posts will always offer something useful, an insight, a challenge, a reframing worth sitting with. They’re meant to open the door.
The paid subscription is different. It’s a line you step across.
Paid subscribers aren’t just reading for ideas—they’re practicing a different way of seeing. This is where we slow down, go further, and sit with questions most people avoid because they threaten comfort, identity, or approval.
Think of the paid tier as a rite of passage. Not in the sense of having it all figured out. But in the sense of taking responsibility for how you see your life. For only $5 a month, you step inside. Full access to the newsletter, the archive, and the thinking that doesn’t live on the surface.
It’s for people who are no longer satisfied with going along with the herd, waiting their turn, or living inside expectations they didn’t consciously choose.
If you’ve felt the pull to outgrow a career that no longer fits, to think beyond the script handed to you, or to see your life from a new angle, this space was built for that moment.
No pressure. Stay as long as it’s useful. Leave when it’s not.
But if you’re ready to evolve, change how you look at things, and make different choices, I’d love to have you on the team.
